Learning Disability week 2026

Learning Disability Week 15th June – 21st June 2026

The theme for this year was ‘Do you see me’

Below are some of things we shared on social media throughout the week!

We are started the week off with information about our self advocacy groups in Suffolk: Own Your Story

Self-advocacy helps people understand their rights and how to express themselves. Speaking up about what is important to you can lead to changes that improve services and support. In our self advocacy groups and meetings, you will learn how to use your voice to influence decisions, make your thoughts heard, and inspire change in the community.

It’s also a chance to meet new people, share experiences, and learn together. Own your story!

In this powerful video, self-advocates come together to share why speaking up matters – especially for people with a learning disability and autistic people.

You’ll hear from Rae, Jake, Shenah, Seb, Ashley, Hilda, and others as they explain why it’s so important to be listened to in healthcare and beyond. Whether it’s about getting the right care, being treated with respect, or just having their experiences acknowledged, their message is clear.

When people with lived experience are involved in shaping services—especially in the NHS – it leads to better, more accessible, and more compassionate care for everyone.

Technology can help you do many things, such as communicate with others, help you write a food shopping list, plan your day, join meetings, and help manage your finances.

In this video, Mark speaks about tech positives, risks and the support from people to help him with daily tasks and living a good ordinary life.

In this video, Mark talks to Kevin John from Suffolk County Council.

Kevin explains:
• What his job is.
• Why it is important to listen to people with learning disabilities and autistic people.
• How people’s stories and experiences help improve services.
• Changes that have been made because people shared their views.
• How Suffolk County Council wants to work together with people to make services better.

This video shows how your voice can help make a difference.

Daniel speaks about his time living in France and moving back to the UK. He talks about what good support should be, his experience in finding supported living accommodation and shares advice to anyone who might be looking for supported living.
